At East Sussex Scouts, we have a huge and diverse team of volunteers and staff who help with not only governance, but also the day to day running and growth of Scouting in the county.
When it comes to the operation of the county, Elaine is top dog. She started off as a Brownie and a Guide before becoming a volunteer in Scouts. Elaine is a Scout section leader and was previously a District Lead Volunteer so she has, not only, a wealth of experience and knowledge but also an endless amount of enthusiasm. When she isn't Scouting, Elaine is a teacher of health and social care in a sixth form college and enjoys walks with her family and dog by the sea!
County Youth Leads support volunteers in their County (including District Teams, District Youth Leads, and County Programme Team Members) to make sure that the County’s activity is informed by young people’s ideas and feedback. They influence decisions that are made in the County as a member of the County Trustee Board, making sure that young people are at the heart of decisions.
Izzy started her role in September 2025 after being a member of the County Youth Team and also working hard to get Network up and running in Brighton & Hove District!
Fiona heads up programme in the county. She works with district teams and the youth teams throughout the county to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to take part in new and exciting activities. Fiona assists with other activities such as adult leadership days, recruitment workshops and the World Scout Jamboree Unit in East Sussex.
The volunteering development team lead is the person responsible for the development of skills, knowledge and general volunteer experience. Ash works with the training, first aid and the welcome conversation volunteers to help our new volunteers understand their role and keep everyone safe. Ash is self employed as a chartered building surveyor and enjoys spending his free time with his animals and in Wales.

Dale keeps the county running in a support capacity which is primarily behind the scenes. It is also where a lot of the fun stuff happens including media & perception, growth and development and digital support. He also runs the county archery team which is open to any Scouting adult volunteer and sessions are run at various venues across East Sussex.
If there's anything someone doesn't know, Dale usually knows the answer!
Gabe has had many roles in Scouting but this is by far his favourite. He runs our socials, updates the website and ensures that there is a positive perception of Scouting in the county. This includes monitoring public groups to keep Scouting visible and promote what we are doing! It is difficult to find Gabe not Scouting but on those rare occassions, he works in customer service and sales and also as a freelance content creator.
Safety has never been more important and relevant, in Scouts, than it is now. Steve has a wealth of professional experience that helps keep us safe. Everything from our events to our buildings, Steve makes sure we know of any risks that might appear in our day-to-day Scouting and how we can mitigate these risks. Steve is retired now but he has had some very important jobs including working for the Met Police and on big events such as the 2012 London Olympics!
Where would we be without Kim? Well, where are we with Kim? Kim works to grow East Sussex in places with diverse communities and lower incomes to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to Scout. She works as part of the national Growth and Communities Team, with a specific focus on driving growth within East Sussex. The county team are passionate, supportive, and have strong governance backing to support Kim in everything she does.
